Strategic Management Tools to Analyze the Business of Smuggling Migrants

Objectives. Strategic management theories and tools can be useful to address societal problems. Our research follows in the steps of the literature on the involvement of management in society, which fosters the ability of finding solutions for institutions dealing with societal issues, by “lowering their walls” between academia, business schools, and social institutions (Currie et al., 2016) and supports theories that are not only interesting but also useful to address societal problems (George et al., 2016; Tihany 2021). Management theories and tools can be used to help investigators and prosecutors fight against criminal organizations dealing with human smuggling. Strategic management constructs can provide useful insights for prosecutors and should be adopted as investigative tools; they will prove especially useful when investigative cooperation between different countries is needed to tackle transnational crime.
