The aim of the essay is to recall some of the concepts and problems closely connected to the subject of company administration, in order to reflect on each of them and find examples of Italian businesses which correspond to them. The analysis focuses on the approach which concentrates on the role of the administrative body. The author, then, considers the way in which such an administrative role (which includes tasks, intellectual labour, problematic areas, the operational logic and criteria) is executed. Finally, since the administrative role has been underestimated in recent studies, the challenge for the future is to place this subject in the centre of the researchers interest.
