New venture start-up may result from the initiative of novice founders or entrepreneurs already involved in another venture. In this second circumstance, the entrepreneurs background affects, all else being equal, new ventures start-up process and results. Entrepreneurs are different than novice founders, because of their competences and network relations that affect new venture start-up processes. The paper proceeds as follows: after defined the phenomenon and analysed its empirical relevance as well as entrepreneurs reasons to create another firm, examines the competences and network relations useful to exploit the entrepreneurs background in the new venture creation.
