Setting up an Industry with its Competitors: The Development of the French Tropical Tuna Fishery

The problem investigated in this research is that of the development of a collective entrepreneurship between firms in competition. As a main result, the study of the French tropical tuna fishery shows a long process of construction as well as an economic and a social community. This double process led to the installation of a supply system which became the fourth tropical tuna supplier in the world. It stopped when the interests of the competitors started to diverge and when asymmetries between the rivals became so important as it was no longer possible to continue as a single socio-economic community.
